Mark Nottingham reported a problem with Safari's use of the syndication
feed autodiscovery feature. It appears that for Mac users on Safari,
the autodiscovery mechanism for the feeds prefers Atom feeds over RSS.
Some might think its a little strange that Apple chose to prefer Atom feeds in
Safari, while using (primarily?) RSS 2.0 in iTunes' for podcasting
support. I think Jake's posts are particularily interesting in that he was around when the specs were first being developed.
Our preference would be to leave the choice in the hands of either
content providers or end-users. Anyway, the discussion starts with this
post on Apple's Mailing Lists. Either way its an interesting read for the technically inclined.
