Database Bloat
The issue comes up on the message boards in varying frequency related to stability and performance problems with Frontier. Its normally discussed as a kernel issue that affects people running large Manila installations. It seems to be related to how the kernel recovers deleted space as objects in the database come and go. When objects are deleted, small holes are left behind. These "holes" are often too small for larger new objects. The system does not seem to be able to recover this space. Over time the database performance appears to slow down and Frontier is more susceptible to crashing.
Several people have developed utilities to monitor the size of the root files and change them out prior to the system crashing. While this is a good work-around - it does not address the problem. If you have seen this problem please feel free to comment and describe your experience. The more information we can collect about this issue the faster we can fix it.
