An excellent David Berlind piece on potential future applications for RSS and, in some ways, the web in general. There's lots of juice left in RSS. Interestingly, its already partially replaced SMTP for me in that my email is now practically devoid of newsletters. In that respect it has already unburdened email from many of its publishing duties. More importantly, its opt-in nature gives RSS a good chance of becoming the communication protocol of choice inside organizations simply because its better, faster, and cheaper (in terms of human time) than the alternatives.
