Seems the spam issues has gotten worse again. Will Richardson posted on it and the danger that it could affect adoption in schools. It seems that no matter what you do, the spammers eventually find a way around it -- spamorism. Betsy Divine posted in Manila Newbies that spam is showing up in Manila even with comments turned off.
We are working on coming up with good ideas - mostly from Lawrence and Jake. One idea for Betsy's case where she wants to disable the comment functionality -- we need to add a way to not even display/allow someone to post a comment.
However, if someone wants to have comments turned on and prevent spam, it will probably require some more extensive changes like disabling comments on a per item basis and turning off comments on old posts etc.) We are also considering something to do with random image verification when posting/allow Me to limit HTML included in post text.
