Visions from Users (cont) -- There are a lots of types of bloggers out there. People who blog, people who just group blog, people who just comment on other blogs, and just participate in chat groups or discussion groups.

There was a flurry of excitement over use of other media types such as video and audio. People are using various media types including upload MP3s, listening to blogs while they are doing the dishes. Others who just read blogs hate video / audio on blogs and won't download them. For various conversations on this topic see blogaudio.org, cmsreview.com, and blogvideo.org.

Blog widgets - there are lots of tools out there that allow you to add functionality to existing blog tools (plug-ins). Again, little consistency on new applications vs. using plug-ins.

BloggerCon First Session -- Visions from Users -- Lisa Williams is leading the discussion about categories in blogging. Generally, there don't seem to be any good definitions of categories in terms of ontology and taxonomy. People differ greatly in terms of their needs. The differences were so significantly that the discussion moved on to another topic.

Lisa asked the how many blogging tools people were using and they described no less then 9 blogging tools. They included das blog, word press, nucleus, p-machine, frazzle, tinderbox (Marc Bernstein), ecto, okaki, druple, Radio, Kinja, Manila, and MT. Several of them were homemade. There was no consensus on tools. Some wanted free, some wanted client side, some wanted server side. Some wanted audio and graphics as well as video. Most are text only.

This really complicates things from a developer perspective. Early days.
